The Robotics Laboratory was founded alongside POSTECH with a dual mission: advancing foundational robotics research and contributing directly to the automation of Pohang Steel Company (POSCO). Since its inception, robotics has been one of POSTECH’s core research pillars.
Over the past two decades, our laboratory has designed and built a wide range of robotic systems. Our first milestone was the development of a 7-DOF direct-drive robotic arm, followed by robotic hands, direct-drive manipulators, mobile robots, and advanced teleoperation systems. We have established internationally recognized expertise in redundant manipulators, spanning both theoretical frameworks and experimental validation.
Today, the laboratory conducts research across a broad spectrum of robotics, including aerial robotics (drones), biomedical and surgical robotics, and AI-driven intelligent robotic systems. Our goal is to develop technologies that define the next generation of autonomous and human-interactive robots.
